Waste-ABC

Where does which waste belong?

Within the framework of our sustainability efforts, the topic of “waste prevention and separation” is becoming increasingly important. Where waste is unavoidable, raw materials should be recycled appropriately to conserve resources and benefit the environment.

The University has developed a “Waste ABC” as a guide. This alphabetical overview indicates how to dispose of various types of waste correctly. After washing your hands, should the paper towel with soap residues on it be put in with other paper waste or in the residual waste? And where exactly does laboratory glass belong? The Waste ABC is a practical guide for employees and students. It has been prepared in accordance with applicable legal regulations and will be updated over the course of time.

HHU is constantly working to optimise its waste disposal structures and ensure correct separation and collection of waste. Each and every one of us needs to do our bit to ensure effective waste separation. The better waste is separated, the more efficient recycling can be. And waste can also easily be avoided in many cases – often without any great effort. Whether buying a bread roll or a coffee-to-go: By bringing your own containers or using reusable dishes, etc., you can make an important contribution to reducing waste. The more waste we systematically avoid, the more resources we can save.
